Inspiration 68: Love Story
Between an Essence and an essence
where there are no names nor attributes
just stillness and silence
for there is no movements and no words.
There,
a love story of a different kind begins:
love from Allah ﷻ to His spirit that He blew in you;
love from the Most High Essence towards His holy blow.
He, The Exalted, had not loved but His self that is in you, and His blow that was bestowed on you.
O Lord!
I adored the breaths [1] of Your mercy,
and I fell in love with Your holy self that is in my being,
for I only live through it.
So I ardently loved it,
and thus I began to understand [2].
Though You are Independent of us,
You draw near to us,
and You hasten to connect with us.
Verily, anyone who loves You can be certain of Your reunion,
and this is one of Your most beautiful attributes [3].
You are the Initiator of this love (relationship)[4],
and this is a favor that we can never requite You for,
for You are the Owner of Bounty O Exalted One.”

‘Abū Yazīd al-Bustamī said, “I made four mistakes early on in my wayfaring: I thought that I remembered Him, that I knew Him, that I loved Him, and that I sought Him. In the end, I witnessed that:
His remembering me preceded my remembrance of Him,
His knowledge of me anteceded my knowledge of Him,
His love for me predated my love for Him, and
it was Him Who sought me first so that I end up seeking Him”.
